Honda CR-Z, The Prodigal Son (CR-X) is Coming Home!

When Honda dropped the CR-X, I mourned for weeks. I ran an independent Honda repair shop for 18 years and Honda’s CR-X was a dear old friend. I made a lot of money working on them and I ran with a pack of guys that would go punish their CR-Xs on an autocross course on Sunday and drive it to work on Monday, no problems.

When I saw a picture of Honda’s CR-Z hybrid concept something about it really got my juices flowing. I think it is my age, but I just don’t get as excited about new models as I once did. But there was something different about the CR-Z, like it was an old firend that I once new… I think it is the striking modernized resemblance to the CR-X. It is like the CR-X has been reincarnated. Welcome home, old friend!

Failure: The Secret to Success - A Honda "Dream the Impossible" Film

It is spring break at GTCC, where I teach and I am slogging away at my book project. This  has been over a two year project that is wearing me down, but I am determined not to quit. I will see this through and the Digital Literacy Project will make a difference!

Over the past I have built many web sites and started two podcasts. I have probably spent well over 1000 hours doing this with some fairly significant out of pocket expenses. You would have to say, up to this point, that my online projects have been failures; however, I am looking at it as a big learning experience.

This morning I came across the documentary “Failure – The Secret to Success” which is part of Honda’s “Dream the Impossible” series. I needed the message. It reminded my that out of failure comes new knowledge that will help you be successful.

Mobility 2088 - Part of Honda's Power the Dream Series

Honda produced a neat documentary where the question was, “What will transportation look like in 80 years? This film is part of their “Dream the Impossible” documentary series. No doubt that digital technology will be a major player.

Honda’s “Dream the Impossible” project is a series of well produced (high dollar) documentaries that are thought provoking. You can view all  the documentaries in the highest available quality at this link.

Honda’s ASIMO Conducts The Detroit Symphony Orchestra

On May 13th, 2008 Honda’s ASIMO conducted the Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) as it performed “Impossible Dream” to open a special concert performance with renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma. Now that is something you don’t see everyday!

Honda hopes ASIMO’s appearance will draw attention to the DSO’s music education programs, and particularly the DSO’s effort to encourage and support involvement of children in Detroit. You can read the full press release about Honda’s The Power of Dreams Music Education Fund by clicking here.

While you can find many clips of this performance on the Internet (a YouTube clip is embedded at the bottom of this post) the best quality video is available from Honda’s site. It is a huge file, but the quality makes it work the wait.
